Yes, another round of “the best templates” but I want to focus on REALLY good looking, original and professional templates. You can find billions of similar articles around web and we read some of them. Usually they are just affiliate articles without any deeper thought about templates. To be honest, our links are also affiliate ones but at least, we will put some effort to explain you why we think so.

We will explore ONLY InDesign templates cause we believe, as professionals, that no other software can match this industry standard, from technical point of view. Other quality measure is aesthetic side of template, like originality, layout, use of typography, color palettes, paragraph and character styles. Also, it was really hard to find good looking magazines which are original and professional but for February Edition, this two gems are enough.

Lets go!

1. Magazine Template v6

Fresh, mainstream and professional looking InDesign magazine template that can be easily transformed for almost every use. We think that this template is great for use for entertainment, music, lifestyle, event, fashion, movie and technology content type of magazines.

What we like:

+ Typography and free fonts that template use
+ Two cover variations
+ Most of color palettes
+ Page layouts and combinations
+ Multiformat: A4 and US Letter sizes
+ Files provided: from InDesign CC to CS4

What we dislike:

– Color palettes on few pages are a bit off and too distractive
– Some layouts look like they are not from the same magazine

Great package for anyone looking for mainstream magazine look. Few minor things that we found as negative, can be easily modified and changed.

2. Ultra Magazine

This minimal, retroish looking magazine template, catch our eyes on GraphicRiver. Simple looking, clean and in the same time warm, bright. We would really like to see something like this printed. Easily, this template is perfect for fashion, photography, art, design, lifestyle type of magazines. Many small details in this template are proof of thoughtful and original design thinking.

What we like:

+ Typography and free fonts that template use
+ Four cover variations
+ Page background color is nice touch and can be easily adjusted
+ Two column layout
+ Compatibility down to InDesign CS4
+ Quirk and asymmetrical pagination placement

What we dislike:

– No US Letter version of template

Once more, really refreshing template in the pile of boring and “me too” templates on GraphicRiver marketplace. If you looking for simple, original and retro looking magazine template, Ultra Magazine is right one. Even if is missing US Letter version, it can be easily modified for that format. We are hoping we will see more of different approaches to magazine layouts and design ideas.

Runner Up: Indiegazine

We are using chance to remember you about our magazine template Indigazine. Very simple and clean template for any art, lifestyle, culture, design, photography or music type of magazines. It comes in two formats: A4 and US Letter.
